Andy Cripps passed away in January 2011, aged just 48, after a late diagnosis of a poorly differentiated neuroendocrine tumour – just a few weeks after diagnosis, after being wrongly treated for backache, sciatica and similar symptoms for six months prior. His sudden death was a huge shock and loss to his family and friends, especially his twin sons Harry and Scott (aged 15 at the time).
Since Summer 2011 Andy’s friends and family have supported the NET Patient Foundation by holding annual charity golf days which have now raised over £30,000.
This year’s event was held on 8th June at Gatton Manor near Dorking, where 31 of Andy’s friends and family played golf in teams of mixed ability, in a mix of sun and showers. The winning team included Andy’s son Scott with his friends George & Ieaun, along with Andy’s friend – Andy Butler. The golf was followed by dinner and a charity raffle and auction, with drinks and reminiscing with friends and family into the early hours.
This year’s event raised £1625, plus £660 raised from the Syder Cup team (another annual charity golf event Andy’s close friend Dipesh Patel captains, versus The Merchy team, who play for Rory Merchant who passed away with MND. The Andy Cripps team won this year. So, a grand total of £2285 raised for the NET Patient Foundation so far this year.
Next year’s annual event is in the diary and will be held on Saturday 13th June.
A huge thank you to Julie and everyone involved for their fantastic continuous support.
