NET Patient Foundation was delighted to be invited to have a presence and talk at the recent Birmingham Centre of Excellence Patient Education Day.
It was a well attended, full day of talks, given by a selection of experts from the Birmingham Multidisciplinary Team, covering many topics from an Overview of NETs to Challenges in Surgery, Carcinoid Heart Disease, Genetics, Research and Psychosocial Support.
Our talk focused on the psychological impact of being diagnosed and living with a diagnosis of Neuroendocrine Cancer and discussed how emotional health can be affected by both physical (fatigue, pain, altered blood sugars, abnormal calcium levels etc.) and psychological effects (fear of the unknown, implications of diagnosis on self and others etc.) along with suggestions for self-help and accessing further support (NET Natter Support Group attendance, counselling etc.).
Thank you to all of those attending who came to talk to our nurse after the presentation – for your feedback and comments.View our talk
