Ride 4 Rory raises over £6000
More than £6,000 has been raised by friends of Rory Johnson who passed away last November. Rory’s class of ’86 school friends rode from Caterham School in Surrey down to the New Forest where they had a well earned rest before starting out early the following day for Poole Harbour. Condor Ferries delivered them all to the Island of Guernsey where an uphill cycle culminated in a welcoming reception at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital where Rory was cared for during his illness. Patron of the NET Foundation, Dr Sarah Brewer was on hand to welcome the boys and congratulate them on their huge efforts. Michelle Redmond, Rory’s sister says “It was the boys’ idea to undertake this fund raising trip in memory of their school friend. My parents and I are so proud of them all in making this challenging journey. The route took them through some beautiful parts of Surrey, and over its many hills to the Downs, which had more ups! They all coped tremendously and the banter was in true spirit. My brother was a keen cyclist and he would have been very pleased and amused to see them all putting in such great efforts, and touched that they have all honoured his memory in this way and by doing so raising valuable funds for NET.” Final donation figures should be known by the end of June.
